Web site update, new stamps sheets updates Posted on Sat, June 20, 2020 07:51PM

I updated the web site today. I changed all of the photos of the stamp sheets to show the new gray rubber material I will be using. I also added two new sheets that have not been posted here before.

The first new sheet that I added is a third sheet of stamps for the Soldbuch. I’m calling it “Soldbuch C.” It’s got 48 great stamps. As with the other sets, these are all exact copies of original Soldbuch stamps, with many also applicable to many other documents. More than 15 of these stamps would be appropriate for virtually any Soldbuch regardless of branch. There are lots of rank stamps, medical and immunization stamps, stamps for leave entries and equipment issue, and more.

The price for this sheet is $49, still the same price I have been selling the sheets at since 2011. For more information on this sheet, click here.

The second new sheet listed here for the first time today is a sheet of stamps for the WWI Soldbuch. All of these stamps were copied from original documents in my collection.

I made a new page on the site for this WWI sheet.

I assigned new numbers to each of the sheets. Previously, they were numbered 1-5 in order of when I finished them. With the introduction of the 2 new sheets, it was time to reorganize them. The new system is as follows:

-Sheet #1: Soldbuch A
-Sheet #2: Soldbuch B
-Sheet #3: Soldbuch C
-Sheet #4: Waffen-SS
-Sheet #5: Wehrpass and civilian documents
-Sheet #6: Feldpost
-Sheet #7: WWI Soldbuch

I also had to break up the stamps sheet page as having all 7 sheets on the same page was too much scrolling. As of now there are 3 different pages for the stamps sheets:

Soldbuch stamp sets
Stamp sets for various WWII documents
WWI Soldbuch stamp set

Stamp Sheet #8 is coming soon. This one will be a little different. It will be a sheet of stamps for WWII German uniforms and equipment, all copied exactly from originals, as always.

Updates to Living History Articles updates Posted on Thu, January 23, 2020 06:47PM

I added some new links to the Living History Articles page on the site today:

There is a new “Frequently Asked Questions” section. “What stamps do I need to fill out Soldbücher for people in my reenactment group?” “Where can I get wood handles for rubber stamps?” “How can I get a WWII German typewriter for reenactment?”

I also added three new links to the “Material Culture” section. There is a link to an article on this blog about WWII German typewriters with the SS runic key, as well as links pages with scans of two Wehrpass service record books: one to the guard Schütze Gustav Reiprich, the other to the clerk Gefreiter Hans Böschl.

Shipping cost increase updates Posted on Tue, February 27, 2018 07:52PM

I started this site in 2010 and despite very many postage price increases by the US Postal Service, I kept the shipping prices the same over the years. Recently there was another big increase and I cannot continue to lose so much on shipping costs, I have been forced to raise my shipping rates for the first time ever. Shipping one stamp sheet or up to 2 rubber stamps with handles now costs $4 in the USA or $15 to Europe (an increase of $1). Shipping for multiple sheets or larger stamp orders will be more. I don’t think any other vendor will ship any parcel for less. “Free shipping” is just built into the price, of course. I remain committed to offering my products to other hobbyists as inexpensively as possible.

New article – WWII German Handwriting updates Posted on Sat, December 16, 2017 12:14AM

Many people have asked me about wartime German handwriting- what styles were used, how to tell the scripts apart, how to learn to write in German script. I posted an article tonight about this. I included some historical background information about handwriting in Germany and show a bunch of examples of the different scripts.

Soldbuch Portrait Photos updates Posted on Thu, December 08, 2016 11:20PM

Many people have asked me what Soldbuch photos should look like. Before 1943, there were no Soldbuch photos for the Heer, SS or Luftwaffe. Most Soldbücher issued 1939-44 had photos added in 1944. They simply used whatever photos were available. Many soldiers never got photos. I posted a new article with some examples of original Soldbuch photos.

Creating a Roster for a WWII German Reenactment Unit updates Posted on Thu, December 01, 2016 12:46AM

Many people have asked me how to create a correct period type roster for their reenactment group. I have posted this information online in countless groups but until now I have not sat down to put all of the necessary information in one place. I’ve just got a new article up that contains all the details necessary to complete this project: where to get the binder, a printable PDF for period type binder labels, another PDF for the page that had to be filled out for each soldier, plus scans for reference, the translation of the form, and information about how to fill the form out. Every reenactment unit should have a clerk and every reenactment clerk should consider maintaining this type of record, it is a great thing to have.

Changes coming soon updates Posted on Sun, April 19, 2015 09:41PM

In Trenches launched in 2009 as a source for reproduction WWII rubber stamps. At that time I never could have imagined the worldwide demand for these products. I am pleased to announce that I will be expanding the In Trenches product line to include reproduction documents, period office supplies and other replica and original personal and equipment items. In the coming weeks I plan to launch a brand new, vastly improved web site! Please check back soon!

Vacation updates Posted on Thu, February 26, 2015 11:39AM

I’m leaving to go on a short trip and will be back on March 10. I will have limited e-mail access while I am gone and I will not be able to design, make or ship any stamps until I am back. I’ve been really busy making stamps lately and I am sure I will be busy when I get back!

NEW sheet of stamps for Waffen-SS is done! updates Posted on Tue, March 19, 2013 10:57AM

I’ve finally got a new set of stamps, 42 all new stamps for the SS. Check it out!

Shipping cost increase updates Posted on Mon, February 11, 2013 03:02PM

The USPS last month instituted a major price increase for international parcels. For an example of how drastic this increase was, a 4.5 ounce package (one stamp sheet in a padded envelope) that used to cost me $5.96 to ship to the UK now costs me $12.75. As a result the new shipping cost I must charge for stamp sheets to any country in Europe in any quantity is now $14. Shipping to Canada will be $8. I regret this change but cannot control the post office. This is the first time I have increased shipping costs in the three and a half years this site has been online.
